With the Gloomhaven Grand Festival live on Backerkit, publisher Cephalofair announced that a new entry is coming to the series titled Gloomhaven: Buttons & Bugs. It is a solo game designed by Joe Klipfel (Gloomholdin' etc) and Nikki Valens (Mansions of Madness, Arkham Horror etc). The game is a re-implementation of the Gloomholdin' game, which also was a small sized Gloomhaven experience with cards only. The game contains lots of the DNA from Gloomholdin', but alongside help of experienced designer Nikki Valens, it has steered into what is now a very different game.

While you are accustomed to enormous boxes from Gloomhaven and Frosthaven with large setups, Buttons & Bugs fits in a tiny box of 108mm x 78mm x 75mm for that portable and combat experience. With the quick setup you can play a scenario in 20 minutes, and play it almost anywhere, as it requires minimal table space. It boasts a similar playstyle to Gloomhaven, at a fraction of the size or playtime.

You have 6 characters to chose from, with different abilities. Then each game features a single scenario card that presents you with various enemies with simplified actions and AI to encounter. Attacks are determined with a die together with a modification table, and both the table and character abilities can be upgraded throughout the campaign. Trough a round you will also play ability cards, which has top and bottom actions to activate, which can provide various actions such as move & attack, just attack, just move etc.

With 20 scenarios provided in the box, you'll have a nice length campaign to play though where you also can upgrade your character with new abilities, upgraded modifier card and more. There is also a interesting story by Isaac Childres to explore along the campaign!

Upcoming is also the second edition of Gloomhaven, which is said to be a completely refined experience. Along the changes are rebalanced and redesigned characters, monsters and scenarios. There is also a re-written story, all-new art and graphical design as well as a new faction reputation system. So in other words a pretty hefty alteration!

The previously announced RPG game is also up for purchase for the RPG interested crowd, alongside lots of miniature sets and a new print run of the wildly succesful Frosthaven game.

This is interesting for me. I like the idea of having a micro Gloomhaven. The fact it's solo-only is strange for me. I don't see why it can't be co-op.

I enjoy solo gaming, so I admit I'm happy.

Yeah it looks very interesting. Bite-sized Gloomhaven experience.
Yeah I see that, they could've made it 2 player, as the original. But I guess they wanted to make it a solo-only for a very reasonable price with minimum components.
